An essay is presented that discusses scholarship on education in the U.S. West. Topics include the history of racism in the North American West, the role of education in the formation of the West as a region, and the roles of imperialism and settler colonialism in the history of education in the region. Historiographical aspects of the history of education in the region are addressed.
